Atwater Youth Soccer is
committed to having the best soccer organization in the valley! We
have many of the best players, parents, referees, board
members, sponsors, and just all around best community, but when it
comes to the coaches we put forward that extra something.
We offer many FREE coaching
courses! All coaches regardless
of past playing or coaching experience can gain valuable
information and instruction from the modern
methods of coaching/teaching youth soccer. The goals for our coaching
classes are the following:
- Helping you to
understand your players.
- Giving you a teaching
framework that works.
- Allowing you to
experience the thrills and agonies of playing soccer.
- Giving you the
opportunity to evaluate your knowledge of youth
soccer.
COURSES AVAILABLE
FOR THE 2008 SOCCER SEASON:
"F" COURSE
- Will be held July 11th
& 12th, 2008. The class will be held at the Atwater Community
Center on July 11th from 6:00pm - 9:00pm and then on Saturday the
12th at Joan Faul Park from 8:00am - 1:30pm. Don't wait to sign-up
as we can only accommodate a limited number of coaches. Email Henry@AtwaterYouthSoccer.com

this class at no charge to you... we pick up the bill for all AYSL
Coaches & Parents! Upon completion of this course you are
qualified to attend the "E" course listed below which will be held 2
weeks later.
"E" COURSE - Will be
held at the Atwater Community Center on July25th from 6:00pm -
9:00pm, and at Joan Faul Park on July 26th & July 27th from
8:00am - 1:30pm. We have not offered this course for a few years due
to the cost, but will have it this year. As always there is no
charge for an AYSL Coach or Parent to attend this class, so be sure

"GOALKEEPER' COURSE - Wow, we have not offered this course for many, many years
now. The only way to have gotten this license & training in the
past was to travel to somewhere like SanJose & pay for the
class. These classes are very limitted in size and to get maximum
benefit from the course you should bring along a player with you.
Coaches & Players are welcome, as well as Parents &
Children. Please register early to ensure we can fit you in by

"F" COURSE
- Will be held some time between
June & August of 2008. As soon as the the final date is set
it will be posted here, but don't wait as we can only accommodate a
limited number of coaches. Call today and reserve a spot for

"E/D"
COURSE - Will be some time between June & August of 2008.
Classes will probably run from 6:00pm -9:00pm on two
Fridays and 8:00am - 3:30pm on two Saturdays & Sundays. You
must currently have your "E" License to register. This class does
not come very often, so make sure to sign up now
and get ready to learn! This class comes only once every three to
five years or so, due to the high cost incurred by the league in
running it. It requires participation by many to make it ideal, so
be sure to sign up!

The educational procedure established by the United States Soccer
Federation (USSF) requires that all coaches regardless of
background follow the educational steps from "F" to National "D".
"PRE-F" ORIENTATION COURSE
- Objectives: Prelude to the "F" Course. Introduction to Youth
Soccer and the CYSA Coaching School.
- Course Length: Three Hours (flexible)
- Testing: None
- Prerequisites: Minimum age is 13 years old. Open mind and
willingness to have fun!
"F" COURSE
- Objectives: Prelude to the "E" Course
- Course Length: Nine Hours Total (Three Hours Classroom/ Six
Hours Field
- Typical Times: Friday evening (3 hours) & Saturday early
morning (6 hours)
- Curriculum: "The Routine", Methods of Coaching & Teaching,
Players and Their Game Responsibilities, "The Routine" In Action,
Role of the First Attacker, and Role of the First Defender, plus
much, much, more valuable tips and information.
- Testing: None
- Prerequisites: Minimum age is 14 years old. Open mind and
willingness to learn!
"E" COURSE
- Objectives: Prelude to the "E/D" Course.
- Course Length: Eighteen Hours Total (Six Hours Classroom/
Twelve Hours Field)
- Typical Times: Friday evening (3 Hours), Saturday early
morning (6 hours), & Sunday early morning (6 hours)
- Curriculum: Systems of Play, Principles of Attack, Principles
of Defense, Roles of the First and Second Attacker, Roles of the
First and Second Defender, Tactics and Laws of the Game, and too
much more to list here.
- Prerequisites: Completed "F" Course. Minimum age is 15 years
old. Open mind and willingness to gain understanding.
"E/D" COURSE
- Objectives: Preparing for the "D" Course.
- Course Length: Thirty-Two Hours (Six Hours Classroom/
Twenty-Six Hours Field)
- Curriculum: Fifteen Attacking Themes (classroom theory &
in action on the field), Fifteen Defending Themes (classroom
theory & in action on the field).
- Testing: Self evaluation - Be prepared to receive Points of
Refinement.
- Prerequisites: Completed "E" Course. Minimum age is 16 years
old.High School Coaches need verification from their Athletic
Director.
NATIONAL "D" LICENSE COURSE
- Objectives: Rating your youth coaching ability.
- Course length: Four Days (Flexible classroom and field times)
- Curriculum: Classroom Discussions and Lectures, On The Field
Game Observation, Field Demonstrations and Examinations.
- Testing: Quizzes, Oral Examinations and Field Examinations.
- Prerequisites: Completed "E/D" course, no exceptions. Minimum
age is 17 years old. (Proof of attending a referee course fulfills
the "D" Course requirements.
GOALKEEPING COURSE
- Objectives: Training the Goalkeeper.
- Course Length: Nine Hours Total (Three Hours Classroom/ Six
Hours Field)
- Typical Times: Friday evening (3 hours) & Saturday early
morning (6 hours)
- Curriculum: The Goalkeeper "Routine", Methods of coaching and
teaching the Goalkeeper, Goalkeeping game techniques and
responsibilities, The Goalkeeper "Routine" in actions, Learning
and teaching specific Themes, along with lots of personal insite
from qualified instructors.
- Instructors: Carefully selected goalkeeper specialists.
- Testing: Self evaluations when instructing (team) goalkeeper.
- Prerequisites: Minimum age is 14 years old.
- Note: Coaches must be prepared to have ONE of their
goalkeepers attend the last 3 hours of the course.
